At North East Supported Tenancies Ltd in Wallsend, we are a supported Living service offering help to young people aged 16+ so they can learn the necessary skills that enable them to live independently in their own tenancy. We serve clients in across the North East of England.

Support for young people aged 16+ leaving care
North East Supported Tenancies Ltd (NEST) was set up by Edwin Bruce Grenfell and Carol Anne Grenfell. Edwin was a social work manager and Carol worked in Family support and child protection. During their time they found that there was a gap for young people leaving care and that they were likely to struggle without specific guidance and support.
Well established support servicesfounded in 2006
We are an established company that has been around for 12 years and we meet all the legal requirements for young people looked after under the term “other arrangements” (as specified in the Children Act 1989 Volume 2: Care Planning, Placement and Case Review).

How are referrals processed?
A social worker would contact North East Supported Tenancies Ltd first on behalf of the young person. A referral form would be completed, we would then assess whether the young person would meet the criteria for our services. From that point we then get back in touch with the social worker to arrange the next steps with regards to moving in options and dates.
Person centred packages
At North East Supported Tenancies Ltd, we also offer person centred packages for those young people who require that extra support. This can be 2:1 support, 1:1 support, waking nights, sleep ins or extra floating hours. We are currently working with a number of different local authorities in the North East.
We support young people in the following ways:
- Find education/training/work
- Attend medical appointments
- Attend court, solicitors, home office, reviews, care team meetings
- Post 18 we will support with setting up benefits and home applications
- We also move the young people to their new home and can support them in relation to setting up costs
- Regular updates to social worker
- We also offer support for mothers and babies
We hold Qualsafe Awards: Health And Safety In Health And Social Care - Level 2 award.
